Who We Are

We are the adult children of former Subpostmasters caught up in the Post Office Scandal.

  • Katie Downey

    FOUNDER

Katie's father Tony was made bankrupt trying to cover for the shortfall in their Lake District Post Office. The family moved to France, and then Spain, to escape the stigma, but Katie didn't know the real reason for their move until 2023.

“My father found out about the reasons he had had shortfalls just 16 months ago, fourteen years late. He had come across Nick Wallis’s book. He told me last summer what had happened. I felt all this pain and guilt and sense of loss about what might have been and should have been for my family and me.”

  • Rebekah Foot

    CHAIR

Rebekah's mum Pamela Church was a Subpostmistress in Liverpool. Her mum’s cousin, who worked there, was convicted of false accounting and they were told to cease contact, creating a rift in the family. Then her mum faced bankruptcy due to the shortfalls occuring in her Post Office.

“To exacerbate matters, the Post Office denied her the opportunity to sell her business, sealing our fate with a devastating blow. With no recourse left, they reclaimed what was rightfully ours, leaving us not only bankrupt but also burdened with a tarnished reputation. It was a crushing blow that shook the foundation of our family’s livelihood that now lives with us forever.”

  • Katie Burrows

    VICE CHAIR

Katie's mum was a Subpostmistress in Derby, and convicted of theft in 2003. 20 years later, the conviction was finally overturned in 2023.

“What this did to our family was devastating in every sense of the word, it’s had a lasting impact on all of us. We had to face it head on at the time, selling our local newspaper with our family’s name and faces all over the front page, I will never forget this for as long as I live.”
