Generous Donation from SPM Alun Lloyd Jones
Lost Chances has received a generous donation from former subpostmaster Alun Lloyd Jones.
Lost Chances trustee Katie’s daughter (Lorna-Rose) and her friend (Darlie Liddle) with Rosie the dog receiving Alun’s donation cheque
He, like many others, has suffered a great deal, and unbearably has endured the loss of two of his children, and supports us in his children's names.
With his kind permission, Alun’s letter is published here in full.
“This is a summary of my experiences and my feelings as a consequence of the criminality and huge injustices that befell my family and so many other families throughout Britain as a result of the Horizon computer system purchased by the Post Office from Fujitsu Ltd.
The lies and bullying that happened, the real fear of prosecution, and worse, have left a mark and a scar that will never heal, and my suffering is as nothing compared to the many tragedies that have befallen others that continue to suffer in so many different ways.
I have been campaigning for a long time to ensure that families are also compensated, not just the Postmasters/mistresses, and compensated in many ways - not just financially, but medically, with counselling, and signposted as to where best to get the help that is so desperately needed to begin the healing process.
Until recently I thought I was alone in my aims and objectives, but came across another way of helping through the registered charity "Lost Chances", whose aims almost exactly mirrored my own.
There are three daughters of former Postmasters as trustees of this charity, who have suffered so much and, if you like, lost their formative years watching their families suffer, and decided to help others by acting as a "Beacon of Hope”, to shine a light and show what is available, and advise on what best to do to begin the healing process.
I lost my daughter in the middle of my fight for the return of my money stolen by the Post Office, and to this day I feel so strongly that my daughter Elisabeth did not survive to see the outcome of my fight for justice.
As such, I wish that Lost Chances had never needed to be established, but I am so happy that these three ladies had the foresight to set it up, and the courage to fight and seek the many forms of compensation needed, and be there for all those who do not know where to go, and what to do, to try and regain some hope for the future.
I am so proud to help in any way I can - I do not wish to dwell on my own dark times - but although I felt at my wits end on many occasions, I am doggedly determined that others will see a glimmer of light at the end of a very long tunnel, and begin the healing of their scars.
Lost Chances is there to help as much as they can, and help to dispel the feeling of having no one to share fears that still exist in their lives.
Donations to help achieve these aims are welcome, and are needed to enhance and expand the services that can be offered.”
